Cookie policy

Which cookies and how we use them

This extended information on the so-called “Cookie Policy” Cookies is provided by Cambridge Raman Imaging Ltd. with the specific purpose of illustrating to each User the types and methods of use of the individual cookies used on the Cambridge Raman Imaging websites as well as providing all the information necessary to refuse the installation in your browser or delete it.

Definition

Cookies are text strings consisting of portions of code sent by a web server (eg a site) to an Internet browser and installed within it. In particular, these are small text files that the sites visited by users send to their terminals, where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites on subsequent visits. Almost all browsers are set up to allow automatic storage of cookies on the User’s terminal.

Cookies are used for different purposes, have different characteristics and can be used both by the Cambridge Raman Imaging and by third parties. Cambridge Raman Imaging websites use or may use, also in combination with each other, the following categories of cookies, divided according to the classification proposed in Opinion 04/2012 relating to the exemption from consent for the use of cookies issued by the Working Group ex art. 29 within the community (available here):

  • Session or permanent cookies
  • Technical or profiling cookies
  • First-party or third-party cookies

Session and permanent cookies

Cookies can expire at the end of a browser session (the period between the opening of a browser window by the User and its closing) or they can be kept for a longer period of time. Session cookies are those that allow websites to link the actions of a user during a browser session. Session cookies expire when the browser session ends. Persistent cookies are stored on a user’s device between browser sessions, for variable periods of time, and allow the user’s preferences or actions to be memorised with respect to a website.

Technical and profiling cookies

Technical cookies are those used by the owner of a site for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or by the User to provide this service. For the installation of these Cookies the prior consent of the Users is not required when used directly by the site manager.

Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles relating to the User and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the User in the context of surfing the net. Due to the particular invasiveness that these Cookies may have in the private sphere of Users, the European legislation provides that the User must be adequately informed on the use of these Cookies, through a short information (banner) and an extended present on the site, and that he must express his consent in this regard the first time he visits the site. This consent can be expressed in a general way, interacting with the brief information banner on the landing page of the site, in the manner indicated in this banner or it can be provided or denied selectively, according to the methods indicated below. This consent is tracked on the occasion of subsequent visits. However, the User always has the possibility to revoke the consent already expressed in whole or in part.

First-party and third-party cookies

A Cookie is “first party” (so called first-party cookie) or “third party” (so called third-party cookie) based on the website or domain from which it comes.

First-party cookies are essentially the cookies set and / or managed by the site owner. For these cookies, the obligation to provide information, to acquire consent and / or to allow the possible blocking of cookies lies with the owner of the site.

Third-party cookies are cookies set by a domain other than the one visited by the user. For these cookies, the obligation to provide information and to indicate the methods for any consent and / or blocking of cookies is the responsibility of the third party, while the owner of the site is only obliged to insert the link to the site on the site.
